Eagle rays belong to the group of cartilaginous fish, characterized by their disc-shaped, flattened bodies and wide fins resembling Eagle wings. They typically have a long tail with 2-6 barbs at the base. Their diet includes various marine

creatures, such as mollusks, crabs, and shrimps. General information suggests that Eagle rays are not known for their aggressive behavior towards humans and are considered to be docile creatures.

Fun Facts

  1. The ventral side of the Eagle ray’s skin is white to camouflage and protect them from the predators viewing them from below.
  2. The primary natural predators of Eagle rays are Sharks.
  3. Eagle rays use their acute sense of smell and specialized electroreceptors to navigate and locate their prey.
  4. During the mating season, typically during the summer, male Eagle rays pursue females. The strongest males grasp the females using their mouths for mating. The gestation period lasts around 8 months, and they give birth to 1-4 babies at a time.
  5. Scientists speculate that Eagle rays leap out of the water to attract the attention of potential mates or to get rid of themselves from parasites.
